Nigeria and Spain set to tackle Gender based Violence through Film Documentaries

The Nigerian Film Corporation and Spain through the African Women Foundation are fine tuning plans to begin the production of a documentary series that will aid the fight against women violence in Africa.
The Managing Director and Chief Executives of the NFC, Dr Chidia Madueke met with the President of the Foundation who also was the former Vice President of Spain, Madam Theresa Fernandez De La Vega at the Spanish Embassy in Abuja to discuss Modalities for the project.
They were in the company of the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mercelino Cabanas Anesorena who described Nigeria as great Country with rich culture.
The NFC and the African Women Foundation are concerned about the plights of women who suffer violence of any form and are set to deploy the potency of film medium (documentary) in addressing the menace.
Under Dr Maduekwe, the NFC has sought national and international partnerships aimed at solidifying the gains in the Nigerian motion picture industry with a view to creating better opportunities for filmmakers in the country to up their trade.
Just last week, the MD was in France where he signed a. Cooperation Agreement between the NFC and the French centre national du Cinema et de L'image anime (CNC) that covers Film Heritage, Artistic Cooperation, institutional Exchange, Distribution and Exhibition.

Chika Ike's 'Small Chops' set to hit cinemas from 31st of January 2020

Chika Ike set to release her movie 'Small Chops' on the 31st of January 2020. Produced by Chika Ike and Serah Donald Onyeachor, Directed by Robert Petersthe movie stars Chika Ike, Nkem Owoh, Eucharia Anunobi, Nze Ikpe Etim, Toyin Abraham, Max Cavenham, Rachael Okonkwo. Lolo 1, Hafeez Oyetoro, e.t.c
Small Chops follows the story of Nikita, an afro dancer at a bar who catches the attention of Casper, an uptight business mogul. Casper pays for a weekend of private entertainment, and things don't go as planned because of Nikita's self-esteem and Casper's totalitarian attitude. This causes sparks to fly. At the time they let their guards down, the spark turn to fireworks.
In cinemas nationwide in Nigeria from the 31st of January 2020.

Royal Arts Academy releases the trailer for their movie hitting Cinemas in February 2020 'Special Jollof' Produced and Directed by Emem Isong, Written by Rita Onwurah, it stars Uche Jombo, Bukky Wright, Joseph Benjamin, Magdalene Vaughn, Chiwetalu Agu, Merlisa Determined, Femi Adebayo, e.t.c.

2020 looking great already as The NFC, Nigeria signs a Bi-Lateral agreement with CNC, France,

On Tuesday the 14th of January 2020, a bi-lateral agreement was signed between the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) Nigeria and the Centre national du Cinema et de l'image anime (CNC) France.
The CNC is translated as the National Centre for Cinema and Moving Images, France. This body is an agency of the French Ministry of Culture, and it is responsible for the production and promotion of cinematic and audio-visual arts in France. The CNC and the NFC's collaboration will amongst other things;

  1. Ensure artistic co-production to be financed by the CNC to the tune of 130,000 Euros for a Nigerian Director/Producer working in partnership with French Film personnel to make a high quality film.
  2. It will ensure the training of film teachers and planning of educational solutions in conjunction with NFC officials as well as the signing up and promotion of existing film clubs that will ensure the campaign for film as a tool for cultural diversity.
  3. There will be events created solely for the purpose of networking between the Nigerian filmmakers and the French filmmakers for the purpose of envisioning joint projects.
  4. The CNC will assist the NFC with conserving, cataloguing, restoring, digitising and enhancing old films and archival documents as well as help with teaching the technical skills involved for optimal delivery in order to promote the Nigerian film heritage.
  5. There will be trainings on fighting intellectual property theft, students exchange programs as well as promotion of children film development under the culture of catching them young.
  6. There will be a reciprocal effort at distribution and exhibition of films made in both countries at film festivals and other film events. 
The signing ceremony, which held at the CNC headquarters in Paris, saw in attendance, Dr Chidia Madueke, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the NFC and Mr Dominique Boutonnat, the CEO of CNC and his team. Also in attendance was Professor Shodipo who flew from Nigeria on self-sponsorship to support the cause.
Congratulations to the NFC, Nollywood and the indefatigable MD for this giant stride.

Filmmaker, Tsaint offer Free Training for budding Filmmakers 'Shoot your Short with TSaint'

Nigerian Filmmaker, Ibikunle Ibitayo officially known as Tsaint is the founder of the Video Production Company SketchedbyTsaint. He has announced a free 3 days practical and Hands on training FREE OF CHARGE for young aspiring/ budding filmmakers called #ShootyourshortwithTsaint'.
Applicants are not required to have any formal film training, however, the selection process is rigorous as applicants will have to undergo a series of tests before candidates are finally selected. The training runs from 16th to 18th January 2020 and applicants. Participants will be taking through the rudiments of Directing, Cinematography and Lighting. At the end of the training participants will work on an actual film set, shooting their own short films.
Tsaint says this is his way of giving back to the society. The training will hold at the American corner of CCHub, Yaba, Lagos.
The training is supported by the American corner at CCHub and Document women, owned by Investigative Journalist & Filmmaker, Kiki Mordi.

Zuma Film Festival 2019, Film Screening Schedule

The Zuma Film Festival 2019 kicks off today in Abuja, Nigeria. The Film festival is going to run for a week from today, Sunday 1st to 7th of December 2019. It has a long line up of movie screenings, talent workshops, master Classes for Film Professionals, Networking and Industry Sessions, e.t.c.
The expected distinguished personalities includes; Hon. Sima Nkuruma, Wagskol Adriano Arie, Haruna Seidusoale, Kunle Afolayan, Madu Chikwendu, Victor Okhai, e.t.c.
It promises to be enlightening, educative and fun.

ZUMA 2019 Film Festival Kicks off in Abuja

All is now set for the kick off of the Nigerian Film Corporation Annual Film Festival, the Zuma Film Festival. The event is scheduled to hold from Sunday the 1st to 7th of December 2019 in Abuja, Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory at the Jabi Lake Mall and NAF Conference Centre, Abuja.
The theme for 2019 Festival is " CONTENT CONNECTIVITY: EVERY VIEW, EVERYWHERE!
The opening ceremony begins with registration of participants and emerging talent workshop and then the Zuma light up Night as well as a red carpet event to welcome celebrities and dignitaries it will commence by 5pm at Silverbird Cinema Foyer.
Zuma light up Night is the official opening and commencement of activities of the Zuma Film Festival 2019, about 1000 guess are expected at the opening.
Other attractions during the week-long festival include the Annual NFC Film Lecture that has the theme: 'THE CREATIVE ECONOMIC IMPERATIVES OF A NATIONAL DATA TARIFF POLICY ON CONTENT DISTRIBUTION' to be delivered by Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications. The special Guest of Honour of the event is Alhaji Lai Mohammed the Honourable Minister of Information and Culture.
Zuma Film Festival is Nigeria's flagship film festival organised by thee Nigerian Film Corporation, the apex film agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Delegates are expected from across film stakeholders within and outside Nigeria.

Abba Makama's Second Feature Film 'The Lost Okorochi' set to Premiere at TIFF 2019

Nigerian Filmmaker, Abba T. Makama's new movie titled 'The Lost Okorochi' is set to have its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2019(TIFF), Taking place in September from the 5th to 15th, Directed by Abba T. Makama, the movie stars Seun Ajayi, Judith Audu, Tope Tedela, Ifu Ennada, Chiwetalu Agu, Kelechi Udegbe, and a host of other amazing actors.
Abba's first feature film. the Green White Green also had its premiere at TIFF in 2016, 'The Lost Okorochi' is his second feature and has also been selected to premiere at TIFF 2019.
Synopsis
The movie follows Raymond Obinwa (Seun Ajayi) through the irreversible change that forces him to give up his job and family and begin a metaphysical journey through the streets of Lagos. He begins a mission to reconnect Nigeria's ancient past to its present moment, seemingly guided by its ancestors themselves.

Zanzibar International Film Festival 22nd Edition holds from 6th - 11th of July 2019

The Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) is East Africa's Largest film and arts festival, exhibiting the latest and best films and promoting film talents from across the African Continent, the Dhow Countries and beyond.
For its 22nd Edition the festival is delighted to announce the new heads, influential South Africa film duo Faith Isiakpere the new CEO, and Firdoze Bulbulia, the Festival Director. They are leading the festival in a new direction under this year's theme 'New Dawn' and will add new and exciting elements tot he programme. They are keen for ZIFF to. be a space for learning and exchange,  under the motto 'each one, teach one' ensuring that it continues th act as a flagship for filmmakers in East Africa. In line with this they have worked throughout the year to train 64 local filmmakers who will showcase their short films at the opening of the festival.
This year the festival received over 3400 entries from over 135 countries. These entries are being watched and selected by a curatorial team made up. of. 26 film professionals from. across the world. The rigorous process ensured that a wide range of fiction features films, animations, documentaries and short films are included in the programme.
Key stands for 2019 will include, Sail by Dhow - celebrating Zanzibar's importance among the. Dhow countries; Hidden Doors - will draw inspiration from the beautiful and iconic Zanzibar doors and will include. a series of pop-up arts. and film events located behind doors in Stone town; Africa Animated - will bring a variety of animation styles from across the Dhow and the African continent to the big screen: A focus on Pan-Africanism, will celebrate Pan-Afrcanism ideas. within the creative industries, this will be reflected in the South African phrase. of Ubuntu - I am because you are - and the interconnectedness of the pasts and futures of the African continent and the diaspora.

The festival is also going to host a number of workshops including one focused on Bongo Movies (the local Tanzanian film industry), looking at how stories have changed, and how and why audiences respond to these films. The workshop features prominent Tanzanian filmmakers including, Mail Shivji, with reference to T-Junction, Vincensia Shule, with reference to Chungu Issa Mbura, with Crush Martin Mhando, with reference to Bhiriri, and will be chaired by Rod Stoneman and Mette Hjort.
With the support of the South African National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), The KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission (KZNFC), The South African Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) and the South African High Commission in Tanzania. ZIFF will also have a number of high-profile South Africa musician, filmmakers and artists in the mix. Music legends Sipho Hotstix and Yvonne Chaka Chaka will be in attendance. Hotstix one of South Africa's best loved soul musicians, will share his extensive knowledge and experience during workshops. Known as the 'Princess. of Africa' Chaka. Chaka has been at. the forefront. of South African popular music for 27 years, she will perform in the famous Mambo Club, and host a high tea in the Old Fort where she will launch her latest book. Songs like 'I'm Burning Up', 'Thank You Mr DJ', 'I'Il Cry for Freedom' amongst others ensured Chaka Chaka's stardom. The song 'Umqombothi was featured in the opening scene of the 2004 movie 'Hotel Rwanda', In addition to this the NFVF will also present a selection of films from South Africa including 'Deep End' Directed by Eubulus Timothy - South Africa , 'Whispering Truth to Power' Directed by Shameela Seedat - South Africa and 'Five Fingers for Merselles' Directed by Michael Matthews - South Africa.
As always there will be the annual Children's Panorama, this year held in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Children's Festival bringing children's content from across the world to young audiences in Zanzibar. In addition to this, by weaving together a tapestry of female centred narrative the women's Panorama will showcase the best of female directors from across the globe, ensuring that there is space.
The Festival this year will take place between 6th -11th July 2019 in venue across Stone Town
